Welcome to BordersEcoFlowers

We are Mike and Bridget Bevan and we run a small business growing sustainable cut flowers. Our garden is located at The Moorhouse, just outside Duns in the beautiful Scottish Borders. We grow an abundance of traditional and unusual, seasonal flowers as well as a stunning variety of foliage, seed-heads, grasses and herbs. We gather the flowers at their peak and create gorgeous posies, bouquets and wreaths.

The Global Flower Industry

We realised that the global floral industry is not as ‘green’ as you might think. So when you pick up your flowers from the supermarket, chances are that those flowers will have been grown hundreds or thousands of miles away clocking up a huge number of air miles. They will have been sprayed with a cocktail of chemicals of questionable toxicity and they will have been wrapped in plastic, or arranged in a block of foam that will sit in land fill for goodness knows how long. How can a product, a floral display, that should be a link to the natural world be so damaging to the earth ? After all we have only one earth; there are no spares….. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

What we did

We established BordersEcoFlowers to put the ‘eco’ back into floristry.’ We believe that if we harness the splendour of Scottish gardens, we can cultivate our own cut flowers. Scotland has an enviable climate for growing plants. It’s not too hot, not too cold, not too dry and (contrary to widespread belief) not too wet. Our gardens are world class and renowned for the variety of plants that suit our temperate climate. We have been collecting all types of plants; bulbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees (and oh my goodness even weeds) in our garden. We cut, not just flowers, but leaves, berries and seed heads. We provide flowers that are grown in Scottish soil, watered by Scottish rain and warmed by Scottish sun. Flowers that are grown here, not flown here! All with sustainability at the heart of our business. Our garden is chemical free. Our arrangements, plastic free. Our deliveries, emission free.
